Box Leagues
Another great way to get involved is by joining a box league. We are lucky to have a combined box league with four other local clubs: Disley, Glossop, Hyde and New Mills. The idea is that you get an opportunity to play games with people of a similar ability to yourself.

Each set of boxes lasts about 6 weeks. We send out a circular email at the start of each new campaign asking if people want to play in the coming month’s box leagues. Let Andy Brown know if you’d like to be added to the relevant WhatsApp group (this is by far the best way to keep track of what’s going on).
The box leagues are run through Squash Levels. Before you can join the boxes you’ll need to sign up to this, which you can do at https://app.squashlevels.com/register. It’s free: please be sure to put that you play for Marple. You can see the current state of the box leagues at any time at https://app.squashlevels.com/boxes?matchtypeid=37492.
Here’s how the box leagues work:
- You’ll always be in a box with people of a similar ability as yourself. Anyone can challenge anyone else. The convention is that matches are played by default at the home of the higher-ranked player (you can see each player’s squash level ranking next to their name). If you’re just starting out we’ll try to include you in the right box after talking to you.
- Convention dictates that the home person books (and pays for) any court.
- Initially your phone number won’t appear next to your name; instead a tiny link will appear saying that you need to share this. If you click on this it automatically shares your phone number with everyone else in these box leagues.
- Each challenge is the best of 5 games, each one to 11 points. After finishing a game either player should enter the result by clicking on the + symbol at the intersection of their respective rows/columns (it’s really obvious what to do then).
Box leagues provide one of the best ways to get involved in playing squash at Marple, along with attending one of our club nights.
