Washout Confirms Status!
Any lingering doubts about Marple’s continued presence in the first division of the Cheshire County League were swept away as persistent, heavy rain meant the abandonment of the game against Maritime last Saturday.
Next Saturday sees another home game against Stockport Georgians, 11.30am start.
Marple seconds made the trip to Macclesfield and garnered a few points in a game that saw just the home side complete their innings. Macc made 132 all out after 37.4 overs, with Alfie Hughes top-scoring with 32. Marple’s terrific young bowlers impressed once more. Dylan Hodgson bowled a superb spell of 5 for 22, and George Bailey continued his fabulous season with 4 for 33. Marple were only able to complete one innings of the reply before the rain became too heavy to continue.
Both of Marple/Compstall’s third and fourth team games were abandoned without a ball bowled.
On bank holiday Monday, a game was played in memory of Marple legend Andrew Hayes, who passed away last March at the age of 72. A current side mixed from all of Marple’s teams played against a team of “returning legends.”
